This commentary looks at current law enforcement practices which are designed to counter the threats posed by organized crime (OC). It specifically analyzes three areas where the practices could be improved – 1) the targeting of ‘intensive offenders’ at the expense of dismantling ‘horizontal’ criminal organizations; 2) the tracing of money flows through money laundering schemes; and 3) the types of international cooperation that have been relied upon to counter OC thus far.
