The three-part charter of the NATO Defense College (NDC) is to 1) enhance the effectiveness and cohesion of the NATO Alliance, 2) foster strategic-level thinking on political and military issues, and 3) function as a major center of security-oriented education, study and research. In pursuing these goals, the NDC specifically prepares selected officers and officials for NATO and NATO-related multinational assignments; it conducts academic studies and research that support the Alliance's wider goals; and it sustains an active outreach program with other educational institutions.
