On May 15, 2019, as part of the Speaker Series on “US Foreign Policy in the 21st Century: Challenges and Opportunities” that is funded by the US Embassy in Bern, Professor Daniel S. Hamilton discussed the topic “The United States, Europe, and World Order in the Age of Trump, Xi and Putin.” Professor Hamilton expressed pessimism about the ability of Europeans to overcome their internal problems and to adapt to the changing international order. He argued that there are three great powers seeking to revise the order that prevailed since the end of the Cold War: China, Russia, and the United States, and that Europe is a focus for each of these powers as they compete.
