Emotions like outrage, fear and anger are key ingredients in the process of armed mobilization. They are the result of shocks or changed structural conditions. But emotional reactions to shocks vary across individuals and ensuing action tendencies are thus indeterminate. How can they favor a collective enterprise like armed mobilization? This symposium essay describes how ideology provides a powerful collective frame that channels indeterminate emotions into armed mobilization.
