This article explains that in the face of strategic threats and declining budgets, NATO and the EU have been forced to engage in multicultural missions that require more adaptive, flexible and mobile forces. The author stresses that the development of intercultural understanding among commanders and their officers is crucial for a successful multinational mission. At the same time, the article states that multinationality may tend to minimize operational success in real combat missions.
