The paper characterizes the principal fields of Belgorod Oblast's international contacts, and describes the most important social, economic and political factors determining the oblast's position vis-à-vis the federal center and its international contacts mainly with neighboring Ukrainian regions. It also assesses the extent to which Belgorod's international political and economic relations make it an internationalized region.
