This paper outlines possible new parameters for EU engagement with Moldova. The author notes that since Moldova is one of the few post-Soviet states where the transfer of power in the past decade has happened through elections, it provides the EU with an opportunity to re-launch its policies in the east. He also notes that Moldova, although fragile, is the most amenable to EU influence, not least because of trade dependence.
