This paper analyses the current state of bilateral relations between Portugal and Angola. It tries to assess Portugal’s standing in Angola’s foreign priorities and calculations. The authors take the increasingly regular political contact between the respective governments into account, as well as past issues that still cloud the relationship. They provide examples of cooperation in different sectors, followed by a comprehensive overview of the current extensive economic ties between the two countries. It reviews foreign policy co-ordination, especially in the light of growing influence of other international suitors and concludes by discussing the significance of the intertwined paths of Angola and Portugal.
