This paper explores the expansion of Chinese state-controlled media outlets in Africa. China's state-owned media are increasing their influence in Africa as an instrument of its grand strategy of soft power engagement. This policy brief traces Chinese media engagement on the continent, explains how strategies have changed in the 2000s and seeks to understand some of the challenges associated with transferring a global strategy to Africa.
