This paper argues that South Africa’s status as an economic gateway for the African continent does indeed depend on its beneficial location, optimal geography and unmatched transport system. After stressing these advantages, however, it then goes on to admit that Pretoria's continued dominance as an economics gateway isn't a done deal. To preserve that role, it will need to pursue effective transport and trade policy strategies in the future.
