This article discusses opportunities and challenges to US-China cooperation on promoting international strategic stability. It argues that the US and China should follow a step-by-step and gradually maturing process to establish new strategic stability. China and the US can continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the areas of regional nuclear non-proliferation, anti-nuclear terrorism, peaceful use of nuclear energy and joint exploration on nuclear safety. They can moreover contribute to the maintenance and strengthening of the nuclear taboo. The author finally stresses the need for the US to make positive moves towards China, especially with regards to its position on Taiwan.
