This paper investigates how Mozambique’s socio-economic development has been affected by natural gas deposit discoveries and industrial development in the natural gas sector. The discussion is set within the context of Mozambique’s political and economic development since gaining independence in 1975. It concludes that for the discovered wealth to be transformed into developmental outcomes, all stakeholders, particularly the government, will have to commit to distributing the new gas revenues in a way that will improve the lives of the general population.
