This paper provides an overview of the incidence and impact of non-tariff barriers (NTBs) in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. In particular, it focuses on how to address those NTBs to regional trade that are the result of inappropriate design and implementation in areas such as licensing rules, import permits, standards and customs procedure. The paper also includes a number of suggestions for Southern African countries on how to remove these NTB's.
