This paper examines Chinese–Liberian relations from 2003–2013 and assesses the impact of China’s efforts to assist Liberia’s political, development and economic goals. More specifically, it provides an overview of China’s role in peacekeeping operations in Liberia, explores its diplomatic involvement supporting post-conflict reconstruction and discusses the role of Chinese commerce in the country. The author argues that although both parties gain from this relationship, overall China benefits more. He then concludes with some recommendations on how Liberia might better profit from the relationship.
