This paper examines the different national armies in the Arab world as well as the way they behaved during and after the Arab Spring uprisings. The author also examines the history, traditions, economics, politics and relationships with the governmental regimes of these armies. She argues that, by and large, Arab forces played a role beyond their military purpose even in those states which did not experience large-scale unrest in 2011. Furthermore, she contends that these military forces will continue to act as political agents in their countries.
