This brief discusses how the EU should approach plans made by China, Japan and South Korea that address regional security and tensions in East Asia. The author reviews and compares each country’s plan and argues that South Korean President Park’s proposal to create a North East Asia Peace and Cooperation Initiative should be supported by the international community. She then argues that the EU is well positioned to back this plan because it is a strategic partner of all three countries and has experience in regional integration and reconciliation.
