This commentary argues that although any finalized agreement on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) between the EU and US will not include the defense sector, the ability to label much military equipment as “dual-use” civilian technology means that this equipment may be moved under a TTIP umbrella. This, author contends, may force the European defense industry to finally address long-standing defense market fragmentation and inefficiency in order to compete with the US defense industry.
