This paper explores Russia’s ongoing attempts to create a Eurasian Union. More specifically, it examines 1) Moscow's 'true' motives behind creating such an entity; 2) whether it is actually viable; 3) the attitude of post-Soviet states towards this organization-in-the-making, particularly in the wake of the crisis in Ukraine; and 4) how Brussels should react to Russia’s attempts to set up a competing organization within greater Europe.
