This paper assesses Ethiopia’s participation in the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and whether the country will join the regional free trade area (FTA). The authors also look at the projected costs and benefits of joining the FTA, and the implications of Ethiopia's growing economic engagement both for the country itself and its neighbors.
