This commentary examines how the EU's attempts to forge closer ties with former Soviet countries in Eastern Europe through the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) contributed to the Ukraine crisis of 2014. The author then examines how the EU could adapt its security and trade policies in order to avoid any further crises or escalations.
