This brief examines the steps the US is taking to ensure that it remains technologically superior to its rivals when it comes to defense matters. The author also briefly discusses the challenge the US faces in investing in defense research and development (R&D) in a worsening economic climate as well as the concern that European countries are not keeping pace with US defense R&D.
