This brief explores the various ways in which women are involved in conflict, from civilian and victims to combatants and peace builders. The authors contend that, beyond the prevailing narratives that tend to portray women primarily as victims of conflict and men as perpetrators of violence, women can also actively engage in civilian life, partake in combat and help pave the road to peace.
