In light of the tactics used by Russia in its involvement in 2014 Ukraine crisis and its annexation of Crimea, this paper discusses hybrid warfare, which involves the use of a variety of methods to undermine an opponent. The author argues that hybrid warfare is not a new development and that it is not a Russian invention as elements of this form of warfare have often been used by western states. The author also examines how Moscow used hybrid warfare in Ukraine as well as how NATO and the EU can attempt to respond to the use of hybrid tactics.
