This paper offers an overview of the US new National Security Strategy (NSS)--the first to be released in almost five years. It looks at how the strategy aims to provide 1) security to the US, its citizens, allies and partners; 2) a strong economy; 3) respect for universal values such as equality, human rights, and democracy; and 4) a rule-based international order.
