This brief examines the shifting geo-strategic environment in Central Asia brought about by growing Chinese and Russian engagement, the US withdrawal from Afghanistan and concerns over the rise of Islamic extremism. The author contends that the EU faces a multitude of challenges in this evolving regional security context and has to (re)assess both its bilateral and regional relationships with the countries in the region.
