This paper takes a closer look at the amount of power which parliaments in Arab countries actually hold. More specifically, the authors examine 1) what is considered to be the purpose of a parliament; 2) some of the problems which parliaments have traditionally faced in the Arab world, such as distrust from the general public and resulting low voter turnout; and 3) the different ways in which parliaments function in different Arab countries.
