This paper looks at the extent to which elections which took place in Africa in the first half of 2015 were free and fair as well as what this demonstrates about the state of elections on the continent. The author argues that while Nigeria's March 2015 presidential elections were widely considered to be free and fair, this can not be said of other elections that took place on the continent. She then discusses the international community's involvement in the elections and contends that it has acted more as an observer than an actor even when it has had the ability to do more to ensure higher standards and reduce potential conflicts.
