This paper discusses whether Niger can help prevent irregular migration from its territory to Europe in light of the many problems facing the country, including those created by organized crime and armed Islamist groups. In general, the author contends that due to political instability, widespread corruption and limited state capacity, little will be done about illegal migration in Niger if the country does not receive help to face its many challenges. Consequently, she suggests that the EU should give the country more support in the form of equipment, training as well as strategic support.
