This paper discusses the performance of Moldova since the country's Communist-led government left power in 2009 and was replaced by a pro-EU coalition as well as the country's relations with the EU. The author first outlines some of the country's main successes, including economic growth, infrastructure improvements and education reform. He then discusses the failures, including the inability of the political parties to create a stable majority in parliament, persistent corruption, and the development of a banking crisis, before arguing that these problems generally outweigh the successes. Following this, he reviews public opinion in Moldova toward the EU and the political elite as well as some of the main factors that could undermine stability in the country.
