Using the example of the negotiations between the P5+1 countries and Iran on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPA), this commentary discusses the increasingly powerful role which so-called pivotal rising powers (PRPs) such as India, Brazil, Turkey and Indonesia, play in the efficacy of multilateral international sanctions, international affairs, the world economy and global governance.
