In light of the EU's ongoing consultations to develop a global strategy, this book presents and contextualizes the landmark documents that have successively codified the Union's foreign and security policy since 2003. More specifically, the authors focus on 1) the June and December 2003 EU European Security Strategy (ESS) documents; 2) the 2008 report on the implementation of the 2003 ESS; and the context in which the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy released her report on the changing global environment in June 2015. The book also includes two texts that may act as key points of reference for the forthcoming global strategy, namely, NATO's Strategic Concept document from 2010 and the 2015 National Security Strategy of the US.
