This brief elaborates on the US' Defense Innovation Initiative, which is designed to sustain the country's lead in defense-related technologies. The problem with the program, at least as the brief's author sees it, is that the Pentagon hopes to leverage breakthrough technologies from familiar places such as Silicon Valley and not include its European allies in the R&D process. That's a bad move because such an approach will only aggravate the technological gaps that already exist between the US and its allies.
