This Issue Alert looks at the EU citizens who are currently fighting for the so-called Islamic State (IS). (They make up 25 percent of the organization’s ‘foreign fights’ at this time.) The text's author particularly examines 1) IS’ social media-driven recruitment in Europe; 2) the involvement of European 'fighters' in producing and disseminating IS' propaganda; and 3) the threats the ‘fighters’ who return to Europe actually present. (It's not immediately high because they either became disillusioned while abroad or did not acquire the necessary skills to perpetrate terrorist attacks).
