This Alert explores China’s ongoing attempts to reshape the geopolitical order, both at the regional and international level. Indeed, the country is pursuing a multi-pronged strategy to fulfill this end, including 1) consolidating its leadership in existing groups and creating new international frameworks; 2) harmonizing the agendas of various institutions in China-friendly ways; and 3) inviting states to participate in the various initiatives Beijing is pursuing in its extended neighborhood, which seemingly includes Europe.
