This Alert explores the nascent domestic and foreign policy preferences of Tsai Ing-wen, who won Taiwan’s presidential election in January 2016. At this point in time, there’s significant uncertainty over 1) Tsai’s China policy, 2) how Beijing will adjust its own strategy in the wake of her victory, and 3) the broader evolution of cross-strait and Taiwan-US relations in the near future.
