This brief looks at the commercial and infrastructural benefits Eastern Europe and the Caucasus region hope to gain from China’s Belt and Road Initiative. For the EU, however, Beijing’s desire to establish new economic, cultural and political corridors in areas that are covered by Brussels’ Eastern Partnership (EaP) policy poses both opportunities and challenges, as this text explains.
