This paper examines the growing impact of Africa’s private security sector and how the industry might affect the implementation of SDG objectives. In addition to providing a regional context for this trend, the paper’s authors specifically analyze the challenges and successes of private security governance in Cote d’Ivoire, Mali and Senegal. The authors conclude by calling for multilevel reforms, including the creation of a regional platform to monitor and exchange information on private security providers, in order to address the security and human rights gaps that exist within the sector.
