This text argues that Europe’s shifting security landscape requires concrete action on the EU’s part. As a result, it explores some of the pilot projects that Brussels has launched to deliver real results in the defense and security sectors. They include 1) the ‘SPIDER’ project, which centers on Inside Building Awareness and Navigation for Urban Warfare; 2) the ‘TRAWA’ project, which seeks to standardize ‘detect and avoid’ systems on RPAS; and 3) EuroSWARM’, which is a demonstration project that seeks to create heterogeneous swarms of unmanned sensor platforms.
