This paper reviews conditions in Kyrgyzstan leading up to and following the toppling of President Askar Akayev in 2005. The author accuses of incompetence and blames many of his shortcomings on his tolerance for corruption. The paper also reviews Kyrgyzstan's relations with Russia and argues that the new government must bring about stability. Otherwise, already apprehensive neighboring countries may elect to intervene.
