The publication discusses the illicit drug trade and security-related problems on the Tajik-Afghan border. The author focuses on the cleavages of Operation Enduring Freedom and the role the US military can play in destroying the Afghan narcotics industry. The report concludes that the Tajik state cannot effectively combat drug trafficking because it is restricted by topography, poverty and a stagnant economy.
