The publication describes the protagonists and networks that have emerged as part of Islamic extremism in Uzbekistan. The author explains how Islam became politicized and subject to extremism following the new regime in 1993. He highlights the spread of Wahhabism, a radical trend in Islam, and the religious extremist sect Akromiyiar.
