Nov 1999

The publication explores self sufficiency and national security policymaking in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The author provides a historical overview of the structural-economic relations between Central Asian countries before the disintegration of the Soviet Union. The growing influence of Turkey and the US in the post-independent region is also explored. The report closes with a decisive look at Uzbekistan’s relationship with Russia, NATO, the UN and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
