The publication examines how China assesses and reacts to real and potential security threats in and around Central Asia. The report focuses on China’s moves to achieve regional security in the face of instability in Afghanistan and increased US military presence. It concludes that Russia and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization play vital roles in protecting China’s security interests.
