This publication examines the diplomatic, economic and political relations between Russia and Belarus. The author argues that despite their close cooperation, Russian behavior with regard to energy resources demonstrates that Moscow will use gas supply as a political and economic weapon. The publication concludes that Russo-Belarus relations remain important to both states and while the EU and US may not like Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko his popularity means that he is likely to secure another term without attempting to alter the outcome of elections.
