This publication examines the attitude of two Ukrainian presidential candidates toward the influence and scope for relations with Russia. The author argues that Russia has methodically used its influence, particularly economic power to achieve its geopolitical goals both within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and outside it. The publication concludes that although Russian President Vladimir Putin understands that NATO does not pose a military threat, his introduction of the Single Economic Space has been designed to mirror EU economic influence a policy with questionable results.
