This publication examines the potential advantages of successfully anchoring Ukraine in the West. The author argues that a drift in Russia toward more autocratic rule raises questions over Moscow's future course and western policy toward the Kremlin. The publication concludes that a political battle in Ukraine over its future orientation and relations should not be ignored by the West and a new policy toward Russia is also needed.
