This publication discusses the political fallout as a result of the assassination of Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic. The author argues that his death is likely to have a symbolic importance that easily exceeds the actual loss of his political skill. The publication concludes that more realistic and careful thought about the role of the International War Crimes Tribunal (IWCT) in conflict resolution is needed as well as increased transparency. This will decrease the perception in Serbia that the IWCT is just a political tool of the West and weaken the position of nationalist leaders.
