This publication examines the outcome of parliamentary elections in Ukraine. The author argues that the outcome reflects neither the wishes of the authorities nor the electorate but rather presidential and oligarchic interests are over-represented. The results also demonstrate a pronounced shift of the reformists from a regional to a national forces as well as an erosion of support for the left. The publication concludes that there is a significant degree concerning the future and despite some likely patronage and favoritism towards the president the parliament will play an important part in Ukraine's future.
