This paper discusses the history, ideology and relative electoral success of a number of extremist radical political parties and politicians in Romania. The author argues that the reason the extreme-nationalist Greater Romania Party (PRM) was successful in recent election is due in part to inter-party fighting of the center-right coalition party during its four years in power. The paper concludes that the PRM's influence is likely to be diminished due to internal rivalries and political manipulations and that the more liberal center-right parties have learned important lessons for the future.
