Until the 2000s, economists deplored the slow growth, uncertain development, and stagnant incomes that defined the African continent. As a result, they spent much of their time elaborating on the historical roots of these problems. So, with African economies growing for more than a decade now, and fuelling a counter-narrative of ‘Africa rising’, what do the analysts do now? The author of this brief thinks they need to explain the progress that has taken place and explore its future prospects.
